Distinguished
guests and dignitaries enjoyed an exquisite cocktail reception hosted
by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) at Majesitc Hotel’s
splendid poolside deck on the third day of the Arabian Travel Market
exhibition. On May 8th, the GNTO ensured the event was a truly Greek
experience with Greek music entertaining the guests, Greek delicacies
from the hotel’s flagship Greek restaurant Elia and Greek
products on display.
More than 140 guests viewed a presentation of Greece’s beautiful
cultural, historic and archeological attractions as well as its
tourist destinations as portrayed on giant screens.
Mr. Iraklis Valvis, the General Secretary of GNTO, gave a riveting
speech about Greece’s tourism and conversed with many of the
attendees about common interests between the UAE and Greece.
Both Greece and the UAE are considered in the top 20 tourist destinations
in the world. Tourism is a major sector in both countries, contributing
significantly to GDP and opportunities for bilateral tourism development
abound between the two countries. The cocktail evening allowed an
opportunity for closer ties for the UAE and Greece, who established
diplomatic relations in 1971. Among the dignitaries attending the
cocktail event were Mr. Costoulas, ambassador of Greece to the UAE
and Mr. Marios Belibassakis, Commercial Attache of Greece to the
UAE.
The Greek owner of Majestic Hotel, Mr. Economides was there to greet
guests. Majestic Hotel was especially selected by the GNTO for the
reception, as it is owned and run by a Greek businessman and showcases
an authentic Greek restaurant featuring cuisine of one of the most
well-known chefs of Greece, Yiannis Baxevanis.
